Yellostone microtopping

Microtopping over tiles

Renovate tiles without breaking them out.

Old tiles do not have to come off to disappear. Yellostone microtopping goes straight over them at 2 to 3 mm, on floors and walls alike. You save days of work and avoid the rubble.

The one rule: no ghost grout lines

If the grout lines are not filled, they stay visible through the microtopping: a slight change in shade traces the tile grid. Professionals call it ghosting, or ghost joints. It affects every microtopping and microcement on the market, not just ours, and it is easy to avoid.

The method: skim to zero. A coat of tile adhesive, sold as a paste and more watertight than a powder adhesive, fills the grout lines and leaves a flat surface. On a very uneven floor, a 2 to 5 mm self-levelling compound over its own primer can take its place.

Then comes the Yellostone bonding primer, followed by the complete system.

The complete system over tiles

Three coats of cement-free microtopping, then two coats of varnish. Allow 4 to 5 days to apply, and 7 days before normal use.

Frequently asked questions

Should I skim the tiles to zero or use self-levelling compound?

Skimming to zero is the standard method, on floors and walls alike. Self-levelling compound is only for a very uneven floor. Your stockist can advise you based on your substrate.

Will microtopping crack over tiles?

Yellostone microtopping is cement-free: it does not crack, provided the substrate is sound and properly prepared.

Can it go over a tiled shower?

Yes, with the same preparation. See our page on microtopping for bathrooms.
